Getting a form upload accepted

Most government portals ask for three things: a colour photograph, a scanned signature, and sometimes documents as a PDF. Each portal sets its own rules — one wants 20 KB, another 50 KB; one asks for 200 × 230 pixels, another for 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm. A file that misses those numbers gets rejected at the last moment, often minutes before the deadline.

For the photograph

  • Take it in good light against a plain background. White or a light colour is safest.
  • Let the face fill roughly 70–80% of the frame. Drag and zoom to set that.
  • Use the exact pixel size the portal asks for, not a rounded one.

For the signature

  • Sign on white paper with a black or blue pen, then photograph it in good light.
  • Run it through the signature cleaner — a phone photo always picks up a grey cast from the paper.

For documents

  • Turn your photos into a PDF first, then compress that PDF to the size limit.
  • Scanned certificates compress much further than text documents, so a tight limit is usually reachable.
