Turn a picture into a data URI you can paste straight into HTML or CSS.

Free, and staying free. No account, no daily limit, no watermark, nothing uploaded. Keeping it up does cost something (the domain, and the AI that reads your notification) and a contribution goes there. Passing the site to someone filling the same form helps just as much, and costs nothing at all.

About Image to Base64

Embedding a small image directly in your HTML or CSS as a data URI saves a network request, which matters for icons and tiny graphics that would otherwise each cost a round trip. This produces the complete data URI, ready to paste into a src or a background-image.

Good to know

  • Base64 makes a file about a third larger, so this is a win only for genuinely small images.
  • An embedded image cannot be cached separately by the browser, so it is re-downloaded with every page.
  • Best for icons, spacers and tiny logos. A photograph produces an unmanageable wall of text.

Questions

Where do I paste the result?

Straight into an img src attribute, or into a CSS background-image url(). The data URI already carries the right prefix.

Why is the text so long?

Base64 represents binary data using only safe characters, which costs roughly 33% extra length. That is inherent to the encoding.

Does this make my page faster?

For a few small images, usually yes, because you avoid separate requests. For large ones it makes the HTML heavier and slower.

Can I convert it back?

Any browser will render the data URI directly. Paste it into the address bar to see the image.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs inside your browser using your own device. Your file never leaves it, and we never see or store it. You can even disconnect from the internet and the tool still works.

Is it really free?

Yes. No account, no daily limit, no watermark on your files. The site is paid for by ads.
