About Compress Image
Upload forms, email attachments and job portals all cap file size, and a modern phone photo runs to several megabytes. Give a KB limit and this searches for the highest JPEG quality that still fits under it, so you lose the least detail the limit allows rather than a fixed amount somebody else decided.
Good to know
- Proportions are never changed, so nothing is stretched or cropped along the way.
- Photographs compress far better than screenshots and diagrams. Sharp-edged text turns blotchy long before a face does.
- Compressing an already-compressed file loses quality again. Start from the original whenever you still have it.
Questions
How small can I go?
Any limit you like, but below roughly 20 KB most photographs visibly break up. If a form demands that, reduce the pixel dimensions first with Resize Image, then compress.
Does it change the dimensions?
No, only the amount of compression. Use Resize Image when you need different pixel dimensions.
Why is my file smaller than the limit I set?
The limit is a ceiling, not a target. The tool stops at the best quality that fits, and a simple image can land well under your number.
Can I compress several at once?
Yes. Add multiple files and each is brought under the same limit, then downloaded together as a ZIP.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs inside your browser using your own device. Your file never leaves it, and we never see or store it. You can even disconnect from the internet and the tool still works.
Is it really free?
Yes. No account, no daily limit, no watermark on your files. The site is paid for by ads.
