About White Background for Photo
Almost every notification asks for a plain white or light background, and almost everybody photographs themselves against whatever wall is nearest. This repaints that wall white. It works by spreading inwards from the edges of the picture and replacing everything connected to them that stays close to the same colour — which is exactly right for a person against a plain wall, and honestly not much use against a bookshelf.
Good to know
- Stand a step away from the wall. Shadows are a different colour from the wall, so they are treated as part of you and left behind.
- It tells you afterwards how much of the picture it repainted. Almost nothing means the background was not plain enough; nearly everything means the setting was too high and it has eaten into you.
- Check the edges around hair and shoulders before you upload. That is where this kind of tool goes wrong.
Questions
Does this work like remove.bg?
No, and it does not pretend to. Those use a trained model that recognises a person. This spreads out from the edges replacing a connected background of similar colour, which handles a plain wall well and a busy room badly.
Nothing changed. Why?
The background is probably not uniform enough, or the setting is too low. Raise "how much to repaint" a little at a time. If the wall has strong shadows or a pattern, retake the photo against something plainer — that will beat any amount of fiddling.
It removed part of my face or shirt.
The setting is too high, so it treated something on you as background. Lower it. This happens most when you are wearing something close in colour to the wall.
Does the form actually need a white background?
Many state so explicitly, and a few reject anything else. Read your notification — some accept any plain light background.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
