About Add Name & Date to Photo
UPSC requires your name and the date the photograph was taken to be printed on the photograph itself, and an application without it is rejected. That is content rather than a file size, so no amount of resizing produces it. This prints the lines you type onto the picture, either on a clean strip added below it or written over the image.
Good to know
- The strip is added outside the picture by default, so nothing already in the photograph is covered up.
- Put the name on one line and the date on the next — type them on separate lines and both are printed.
- Do this before setting the final pixel size, because adding a strip changes the dimensions.

Which exams need this?
UPSC is the well-known one: the name and the date the photo was taken must be printed on the photograph. A few state commissions ask for the same. Check your notification.
Should I add a strip or write over the photo?
A strip is safer. Text written across a face is hard to read and is not what the instruction means. Use the overlay only if the form insists the text sit inside the original frame.
What date should I write?
The date the photograph was actually taken, not the date you are applying. Railway and UPSC applications both care about photo age.
Will this change my photo size?
Adding a strip makes the image taller. Set the final pixel size afterwards with Exam Photo Resizer.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
