About Favicon Generator
A browser tab, a bookmark, a phone home screen and a Windows tile all want a different icon size, and a site that supplies only one ends up with a blurry icon somewhere. This produces the full set (16, 32, 48, 180, 192 and 512 pixels) from a single square image in one go.
Good to know
- Start from a square image at 512 pixels or larger. Anything smaller has to be enlarged for the big sizes.
- Simple shapes survive being shrunk to 16 pixels; detailed logos and any text turn to mush.
- A transparent PNG source keeps the icon looking right on both light and dark browser themes.
Questions
Which sizes do I actually need?
All of them, realistically. 16 and 32 for browser tabs, 48 for Windows, 180 for iOS home screens, 192 and 512 for Android and web app manifests.
Do I need an .ico file as well?
Only for older browsers. If you want one, Image to ICO builds it with several sizes inside a single file.
Where do the files go on my site?
Usually the site root, referenced from your HTML with link rel="icon" tags and listed in your web manifest.
Can I use a photo?
You can, but photographs read poorly at icon sizes. A bold letter or symbol works far better.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs inside your browser using your own device. Your file never leaves it, and we never see or store it. You can even disconnect from the internet and the tool still works.
Is it really free?
Yes. No account, no daily limit, no watermark on your files. The site is paid for by ads.
