About Black & White Image
Greyscale is occasionally a requirement, since some scanned document uploads insist on it, and often just a useful trick, because removing colour information typically cuts file size noticeably while leaving the subject perfectly legible.
Good to know
- Converting to greyscale is a one-way trip. The original colours cannot be recovered from the result.
- It usually shrinks a photo meaningfully, which is sometimes enough to meet a limit on its own.
- Scanned text and signatures often read more clearly in greyscale than in washed-out colour.

Will this help me meet a KB limit?
Often considerably, since colour is a large share of a photograph. Follow with Compress Image if you need an exact ceiling.
Is greyscale the same as black and white?
Not quite. Greyscale keeps the full range of greys; true black and white would allow only two tones.
Can I undo it?
Not from the exported file. Keep your original if you may need colour later.
Does it work on PNG?
Yes, and transparency is preserved.
