SSC GD Constable photo and signature size

SSC GD draws more applications than almost any other recruitment in the country, and the upload step rejects a large share of them without saying why. The photograph is specified in centimetres while the portal checks pixels, which is where most of the confusion starts.

Check your own notification first. The physical size and the pixel size do not agree. 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm at 200 DPI is 276 x 354 pixels, not the 200 x 230 that most sites publish for SSC GD. Both figures are in wide circulation. If the portal states a pixel size, use that; if it states only centimetres, 276 x 354 at 200 DPI is the honest conversion.

What resizing will not fix

A constable application is also checked by a human at document verification. A photograph that meets every file rule but was taken years ago, or in which you are hard to recognise, still causes problems later. Nothing a resizer does changes that.

Already tried, and it was refused?

A portal almost never says which rule you broke. Drop the file you tried to upload into the rejection checker and it reports on each rule separately — format, pixel size, the maximum, the minimum and the DPI — so you fix the one that is actually wrong instead of guessing. It reads the file and changes nothing.

Have the notification in front of you?

Then you do not need the figures above at all. Copy the upload instructions straight out of it and paste them into the box on the home page — it reads the pixel sizes, the KB range and the DPI out of the text and sets the tools to exactly what your notification says. That is always right, even when a published figure has gone stale.

Notes on these figures

  • The notification states 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm. 200 x 230 is the pixel figure most sites quote for it, though the arithmetic does not match — see the warning above.
  • Quoted as 4 cm x 2 cm, in black or blue ink on white paper.
  • If a minimum KB is given, set it too — a clean photograph often compresses below it, and the tool pads the file to reach it without touching the picture.

What is the SSC GD photo size in pixels?

Most sources give 200 x 230 pixels at 20 to 50 KB. The notification itself gives 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm, which at 200 DPI works out to 276 x 354. Use the pixel figure your portal states.

What is the SSC GD signature size?

Reported as 4 cm x 2 cm, about 140 x 60 pixels, at 10 to 20 KB in JPEG.

My photo is under 50 KB and still rejected. Why?

Check the minimum. SSC GD sets a floor of 20 KB, and a clean, plain-background photograph often compresses below it on its own. A file can fail for being too small.

Can I use a selfie?

No. The requirement is a recent passport-style colour photograph against a plain light background. A selfie is normally rejected at verification even when the file itself is valid.
