SSC CHSL photo and signature size

CHSL shares the One Time Registration profile with the rest of SSC, so the photograph rules are the registration rules rather than something CHSL sets on its own — which is exactly why published figures for it contradict each other. Take the numbers from the notification you are applying under, then set them exactly.

Check your own notification first. Sources disagree on the photograph. Several give 100 x 120 pixels for the One Time Registration profile, others give 200 x 230, and at least one argues 200 x 230 belongs to IBPS and SBI rather than to SSC at all. The signature is quoted as 4 cm wide in some places and 6 cm in others. The KB ranges — 20 to 50 for the photo, 10 to 20 for the signature — are the one thing nearly everyone agrees on.

What resizing will not fix

Recent SSC applications photograph you live inside the application module, with a plain background, no cap and no spectacles. That capture happens on the SSC portal and nothing here can produce it. These tools are for the file you upload, in the years and stages where a file is what is asked for.

Already tried, and it was refused?

A portal almost never says which rule you broke. Drop the file you tried to upload into the rejection checker and it reports on each rule separately — format, pixel size, the maximum, the minimum and the DPI — so you fix the one that is actually wrong instead of guessing. It reads the file and changes nothing.

Have the notification in front of you?

Then you do not need the figures above at all. Copy the upload instructions straight out of it and paste them into the box on the home page — it reads the pixel sizes, the KB range and the DPI out of the text and sets the tools to exactly what your notification says. That is always right, even when a published figure has gone stale.

Notes on these figures

  • Reported for the One Time Registration profile photo. Recent CHSL cycles capture the photograph live instead, in which case there is no file to upload at all.
  • Quoted as roughly 6.0 cm x 2.0 cm. Crop close to the strokes first, or the signature ends up tiny inside a wide empty box.
  • If a minimum KB is given, set it too — a clean photograph often compresses below it, and the tool pads the file to reach it without touching the picture.

What is the photo size for SSC CHSL?

Most widely reported as 20 to 50 KB in JPEG. The pixel figure is disputed: 100 x 120 for the One Time Registration profile in most places, 200 x 230 in others. Check your notification, then set whichever it gives.

What is the SSC CHSL signature size?

10 to 20 KB in JPEG, around 140 x 60 pixels. Sign in black or dark blue on unlined white paper and crop close before resizing.

Do I still upload a photo if CHSL captures one live?

The live capture replaces the profile photograph in the cycles that use it. The signature is still a file you upload, so it still has to meet the size rule.

Why does my correctly sized photo still get rejected?

Almost always the pixel dimensions rather than the KB. A portal checks width and height separately, and a file at exactly the right KB with the wrong dimensions fails with the same unhelpful message.
