RRB NTPC and Group D photo and signature size

Railway applications differ from the rest in a way that costs people their form: the photograph usually has to be taken on or after the notification date. NTPC and Group D are also quoted with different sizes and even different orientations, and the published figures for them conflict more than for any other exam here.

Check your own notification first. This is the worst of the exams researched. One source gives Group D as 320 x 240 pixels at 40 to 100 KB and NTPC as 200 x 230 at 20 to 100 KB — then, in the same article, says the difference between them is orientation, with NTPC portrait at 240 x 320 and Group D landscape at 320 x 240. Those two statements cannot both be true. The signature ceiling is quoted as both 49 KB and 55 KB. Do not trust any figure on this page over your own notification.

What resizing will not fix

Railway notifications commonly require the photograph to have been taken ON OR AFTER the notification date. An older photograph at exactly the right size is still rejected, and no resizer can fix that — take a new one.

Have the notification in front of you?

Then you do not need the figures above at all. That is always right, even when a published figure has gone stale.

Notes on these figures

  • This is the Group D figure. NTPC is quoted differently — see the warning above, and take the number from your own notification.
  • The signature must be in running handwriting. Block capitals are commonly rejected.
  • If a minimum KB is given, set it too — a clean photograph often compresses below it, and the tool pads the file to reach it without touching the picture.

Is RRB NTPC the same size as Group D?

No, and the sources disagree about how they differ. Group D is commonly given as 320 x 240 and NTPC as either 200 x 230 or 240 x 320. This is one to read off your own notification rather than any website.

Can I use an old photograph?

Usually not. Railway notifications commonly require the photo to have been taken on or after the notification date, and that is checked. A correctly sized old photo is still rejected.

Why is my signature rejected?

Block capitals are commonly refused. Use running handwriting in black or dark blue ink on plain white paper.

What file size does the signature need?

Quoted as 30 to 55 KB, though one source says the ceiling is 49 KB. Set whatever your notification states.
