IBPS PO photo and signature size

Banking applications are among the stricter ones: IBPS wants a photograph, a signature, a thumb impression and a handwritten declaration, each as a separate file inside its own size window. Getting the photograph right and then failing on the thumb impression is a common way to lose an afternoon.

Check your own notification first. Agreement here is better than for most exams, though one source quotes the photo limit as 100 KB rather than 50 KB. The same 200 x 230 figure is widely quoted for SBI and for IBPS Clerk and RRB, so it is worth confirming which of those you are actually applying to.

What resizing will not fix

IBPS applications usually want two more files that a photo resizer alone does not cover: a left thumb impression and a handwritten declaration, each with their own size limits. Both are images, so the same tools will set them — but take the numbers for those from your notification, because they are not the same as the photograph.

Have the notification in front of you?

Then you do not need the figures above at all. Copy the upload instructions straight out of it and paste them into the box on the home page — it reads the pixel sizes, the KB range and the DPI out of the text and sets the tools to exactly what your notification says. That is always right, even when a published figure has gone stale.

Notes on these figures

  • IBPS is the one set of figures that most sources actually agree on, which is unusual and worth knowing.
  • Sign in black ink on white paper. A signature in block capitals is commonly rejected.
  • If a minimum KB is given, set it too — a clean photograph often compresses below it, and the tool pads the file to reach it without touching the picture.

Questions

What is the photo size for IBPS PO?

200 x 230 pixels at 20 to 50 KB in JPEG is the figure almost every source gives, and IBPS is unusual in that they mostly agree. One source quotes 100 KB as the ceiling, so confirm against your notification.

What about the thumb impression and declaration?

Both are separate image uploads with their own limits, which differ from the photograph. Read them off your notification and use the same tools with those numbers.

Can I sign in capital letters?

It is commonly rejected. Use your normal running signature in black ink on white paper — the same one you will write in the exam hall.

Is 200 x 230 the same for SBI and IBPS Clerk?

That figure is widely quoted for both, but they are separate applications with separate notifications. Check yours rather than assuming.
