CTET photo and signature size

CTET sets one of the lowest signature floors of any national exam — 3 KB — and a neat signature on white paper regularly compresses below it. A file that is too small fails exactly like one that is too large, and the portal does not tell you which.

Check your own notification first. Published pixel figures for CTET are conversions, not rules, and they differ because people convert at different DPI — 350 x 450 and 276 x 354 are the same 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm at 254 and 200 DPI. A few sites also give the photo range as 10 to 100 KB and others as 20 to 100. The signature floor of 3 KB is agreed and matters: a clean signature very easily compresses under it.

What resizing will not fix

CBSE rejects the application if the photograph is not recent or the signature is in capital letters, and the correction window for CTET is short. Neither is something a file tool can detect for you, so check both before you upload rather than after.

Already tried, and it was refused?

A portal almost never says which rule you broke. Drop the file you tried to upload into the rejection checker and it reports on each rule separately — format, pixel size, the maximum, the minimum and the DPI — so you fix the one that is actually wrong instead of guessing. It reads the file and changes nothing.

Have the notification in front of you?

Then you do not need the figures above at all. Copy the upload instructions straight out of it and paste them into the box on the home page — it reads the pixel sizes, the KB range and the DPI out of the text and sets the tools to exactly what your notification says. That is always right, even when a published figure has gone stale.

Notes on these figures

  • Specified as 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm. At 200 DPI that is 276 x 354 pixels; some sites quote 350 x 450, which is the same physical size at 254 DPI.
  • Around 3.5 cm x 1.5 cm. The 3 KB floor is unusually low and easy to fall under.
  • If a minimum KB is given, set it too — a clean photograph often compresses below it, and the tool pads the file to reach it without touching the picture.

My signature file is 2 KB. Is that a problem?

Yes, it is under the floor. Padding brings the file up to the minimum without changing the picture, which is what the signature tool does when you set a minimum.

Is 350 x 450 or 276 x 354 correct for CTET?

Both describe 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm — at 254 DPI and at 200 DPI. CBSE specifies the centimetres, so either is defensible unless your portal states pixels.
